How to Use Full Control Helper Mac App to Control Your Mac with Your iPhone or iPad

If you select your startup disk as the source to a backup task and you have not yet granted full disk access to CCC's privileged helper tool, CCC's Cloning Coach will raise this to your attention when you save or run that task. When you click on the "Grant Access..." button offered by the Cloning Coach, CCC will present the Install Assistant, indicated by the screenshot above.

Likewise, if you proceed with a backup task without granting full disk access to CCC's privileged helper tool and CCC is prevented from backing something up, the error will be raised to your attention in CCC's Task History window, along with the "Grant Access..." button.

It seems intuitive to add the Carbon Copy Cloner application to the Full Disk Access list. Unfortunately, Apple's Privacy measures don't work in an intuitive manner when an application leverages a privileged helper tool. Following Apple's Best Practices for performing tasks with elevated privileges (e.g. backing up your startup disk), CCC leverages a privileged helper tool for managing all aspects of your backup task. Therefore, it is CCC's privileged helper tool ("com.bombich.ccchelper") that needs Full Disk Access, not the main application. After adding granting full disk access to CCC and its helper tool, the Full Disk Access table should look like this:

We have received several reports that ESET software will prevent modifications to the settings in the Privacy tab of the Security & Privacy Preference Pane. If you are unable to add items to the Full Disk Access category and you have ESET installed, temporarily uninstall ESET before attempting to grant CCC and its helper tool full disk access. After you have granted CCC full disk access, you can then reinstall ESET.

When you have completed the migration, open CCC and configure a task to back up the new startup disk to the original backup disk. This time, grant CCC Full Disk Access before proceeding so you can avoid the reinstall+Migration Assistant procedure in the future. To proactively grant CCC and its helper tool full disk access, choose "Grant CCC Full Disk Access..." from the Carbon Copy Cloner menu.

When a third-party app tries to access and control your Mac through accessibility features, you receive an alert, and you must specifically grant the app access to your Mac in Privacy & Security settings.

Remote help uses Intune role-based access controls (RBAC) to set the level of access a helper is allowed. Through RBAC, you determine which users can provide help and the level of help they can provide.

During technical troubleshooting, it is sometimes necessary to fully uninstall and reinstall the Battle.net desktop app. Follow the instructions below to completely uninstall the Battle.net desktop app.

I just did a test in 11.4: Reset the TCC with `tccutil`, after which FAF asked for FDA again. Then I ran a search on the startup volume - the helper was able to search the entire volume and find files.

It's not clear from that thread, but my guess is what those people did was use SMJobBless to install the helper into /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools, so that it can run as root. Therefore, when running the tool, it doesn't actually launch from within the bundle (even though that is its origin), so maybe there's a new bug where TCC no longer recognizes that relationship.

TCC is definitely inconsistent and inscrutable. Some capabilities (Automation) have APIs to check whether you have permission, while others (Full Disk Access, Screen Recording) don't provide an API call and you have to try an operation to see if it fails, then prompt the user if it appears they haven't yet authorized your app. Some require that you develop UI to walk the user through Security & Privacy, while others like Screen Recording put up their own prompt, regardless of whether you want them to or not. There doesn't seem to have been any consistent API design or consideration of user interaction flows when putting together the privacy controls.

My experience with launching helper executables (bundled within my apps) via NSTask is that TCC permissions are inherited, and that seems to continue in 11.4. So, like Thomas says above, TCC inheritance must be broken when helper apps are launched in other ways (perhaps via launchd - which is actually how we're _supposed to do it, right?)

An advanced FDA-cleared medical imaging viewer that can be launched from any modern browser on Mac or Windows. Can be launched with the assistance of an installed helper application (RIA Helper) or via Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP) if a Java Runtime environment is installed and accessible to the browser.

If you access your work account on a work or personal computer, your administrator might require you to set up endpoint verification. Endpoint verification lets your administrator review information about your device and control your access to apps based on your location, device security status, or other attributes.

Note: When you try to connect to secured services such as internal websites on Chrome browser, you might be asked which certificate to use. Make sure to choose the one issued by your organization and not the one created by the helper app. Otherwise, you might not be able to access those websites.

You can install FortiClient (macOS) 6.4.3 on macOS 11 Big Sur and 10.15 Catalina. With these macOS releases, however, FortiClient works properly only when you grant permissions to access the full disk in the Security & Privacy pane for the following services:

You may have to manually add fmon2 to the list, as it may not be in the list of applications to allow full disk access to. Click the + icon to add an application. Browse to /Library/Application Support/Fortinet/FortiClient/bin/ and select fmon2.

Full Disk Access permission is a privacy feature introduced in macOS Mojave (10.14) that prevents some applications from accessing your important data, such as Mail, Messages, TimeMachine, and Safari files. This means you need to manually grant permission for certain applications to access these protected areas of your Mac. In earlier versions of macOS (10.13 and lower), this permission is automatically granted during installation of your Avast product. Follow the instructions below to enable full disk access on macOS Mojave (10.14) or higher for your Avast product(s) on your Mac.

There are three different ways that helper apps are normally run: as Login Items, Launch Agents, and Launch Daemons. Although they overlap in how they work and what each does, Apple differentiates them as:

Users are then properly informed about these helpers, and given control over them in a single unified panel in System Settings, for Login Items. This controls all apps and other items that run at startup or login, except those in macOS itself. As this could get fiddly, Ventura applies rules to simplify this:

Thanks for the information. Is there a place where all login items are stored or saved? I mean, a single site or file to control them all (including Login Items in the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences, /Library/Application Support/com.apple.backgroundtaskmanagementagent/backgrounditems.btm, etc)?

Running a Mac and having NTFS formatted external disks, you definitely need NTFS for Mac. It is well priced and enables read and write access to your NTFS drives no matter what size. The speed at which you can read and write the data on these drives is the best of any competitor if there really is one. Anyone who needs to use Mac and Windows computers needs this app for easy data transfer. The interface is best of any application found, and the application itself offers additional drive tools for taking full control. The latest version also supports Mojave and APFS format to complete a perfect application. It is without real competition and deserves a full 5-star award. This utility makes your external storage usable on any computer system Windows or Mac. So your data remains interchangeable and is fully adapted for macOS MOJAVE.
